WASHINGTON, June 23 (Reuters) - Americans spend twice as much as residents of other developed countries on healthcare, but get lower quality, less efficiency and have the least equitable system, according to a report released on Wednesday.
The United States ranked last when compared to six other countries -- Britain, Canada, Germany, Netherlands, Australia and New Zealand, the Commonwealth Fund report found.
"As an American it just bothers me that with all of our know-how, all of our wealth, that we are not assuring that people who need healthcare can get it," Commonwealth Fund president Karen Davis told reporters in a telephone briefing.
Previous reports by the nonprofit Fund, which conducts research into healthcare performance and which promotes changes in the U.S. system, have been heavily used by policymakers and politicians pressing for healthcare reform.
Davis said she hoped health reform legislation passed in March would lead to improvements.
The current report uses data from nationally representative patient and physician surveys in seven countries in 2007, 2008, and 2009.
In 2007, health spending was $7,290 per person in the United States, more than double that of any other country in the survey.
Australians spent $3,357, Canadians $3,895, Germans $3,588, the Netherlands $3,837 and Britons spent $2,992 per capita on health in 2007. New Zealand spent the least at $2,454.
And yet Americans get less for their money, said the Commonwealth Fund's Cathy Schoen.
"We rank last on safety and do poorly on several dimensions of quality," Schoen told reporters. "We do particularly poorly on going without care because of cost. And we also do surprisingly poorly on access to primary care and after-hours care."
SIXTH IN QUALITY
The report looks at five measures of healthcare -- quality, efficiency, access to care, equity and the ability to lead long, healthy, productive lives.
"On measures of quality the United States ranked 6th out of seven countries," the group said in a statement.
U.S. patients with chronic conditions were the most likely to say they got the wrong drug or had to wait to learn of abnormal test results.
Overall Britain, whose nationalized healthcare system was widely derided by opponents of U.S. healthcare reform, ranks first, the Commonwealth team found.
"The findings demonstrate the need to quickly implement provisions in the new health reform law and stimulus legislation that focus on strengthening primary care, realigning incentives to reward higher quality and greater value, investing in preventive care, and expanding the use of health information technology," the report reads.
Critics of reports that show Europeans or Australians are healthier than Americans point to the U.S. lifestyle as a bigger factor than healthcare. Americans have higher rates of obesity than other developed countries, for instance.
"On the other hand, the other countries have higher rates of smoking," Davis countered. And Germany, for instance, has a much older population more prone to chronic disease.
Every other system covers all its citizens, the report noted and said the U.S. system, which leaves 46 million Americans or 15 percent of the population without health insurance, is the most unfair.
"The lower the performance score for equity, the lower the performance on other measures. This suggests that, when a country fails to meet the needs of the most vulnerable, it also fails to meet the needs of the average citizen," the report reads. (Editing by Sandra Maler)

(NaturalNews) Scotts Miracle-Gro, a popular household name in gardening and lawn care products, is the subject of a new class-action lawsuit that is seeking damages for the company's willful distribution and sale of bird seed products contaminated with toxic, unapproved insecticides. Courthouse News Service (CNS) reports that plaintiffs from Illinois, Missouri, Minnesota, Arkansas, Kentucky, and New Mexico have jointly filed the new suit, which follows an earlier suit in which Scotts Miracle-Gro pleaded guilty to knowingly selling poisoned bird seed to customers for over two years.
According to the latest suit, Scotts Miracle-Gro sold customers "defective and toxic bird feed products" between November 2005 and March 2008 when it knowingly applied Storcide II (chlorpyrifos-methyl) and Actellic 5E (pirimiphos-methyl), two illegal insecticide chemicals, to several brands of of its bird seed that include Country Pride, Morning Song, Scotts Songbird Selections, and Scotts Wild Bird Food. As a result, plaintiffs say they and thousands of others were ripped off by Scotts Miracle-Gro and its "criminal enterprise," which may have also poisoned countless bird species across the U.S.
"Scotts failed to disclose that its bird seed contained pesticides that were known to be highly toxic to birds," says the complaint. "Instead, [Scotts Miracle-Gro] knowingly sold millions of units of its defective and toxic bird seed products, knowing the products would be widely used to feed birds at purchasers' homes, in back yards and in wild and natural environments across the United States."
Scotts Miracle-Gro apparently started using the two chemicals as bird seed coating to prevent insects from ravaging the product in storehouses prior to shipment and use. But neither Storcide II nor Actellic 5E are approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for use in bird feed, and the EPA specifically recognizes Storcide II as being extremely toxic to birds, fish, and other wildlife, which means it clearly has no place being used in food given to birds.
"Both chemical toxins act as cholinesterase inhibitors that result in overstimulation of the nervous system," says a piece published by the U.K.'s Guardian about both Storcide II and Actellic 5E. "Small doses of either poison cause symptoms that include nausea, dizziness, and confusion, and higher doses lead to respiratory paralysis and death."
Scotts Miracle-Gro scientists warned that insecticides threatened birds, company ignored pleas
The suit also alleges that during the summer and fall of 2007, a pesticide chemist and an ornithologist both working for Scott's Miracle-Gro came forward and warned their company that the use of Storcide II and Actellic 5E in bird feed was a serious threat to birds. Scotts Miracle-Gro allegedly ignored these warnings and continued to use the additives in bird feed for several years. According to the allegations, 73 million units of tainted bird feed were sold during this time.
During this same time, a federal registrations manager who was also employed by Scotts Miracle-Gro intentionally falsified pesticide registration documents for both Storcide II and Actellic 5E, which gave the illusion that both products were permitted for use in bird seed. When asked by the EPA for documents backing the use of the two chemicals, Scotts Miracle-Gro "fabricated correspondence and agency documents ... in an effort to deceive the EPA into believing it had registered these products but lost its files."
Chlorpyrifos linked to Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD)
To make matters even worse, the active ingredient in Storcide II, chlorpyrifos-methyl, is one of the many chemical poisons linked to causing Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD), the mysterious bee collapse phenomenon that has been observed all across the world. A paper published in both the American Bee Journal (ABJ) and Bee Culture explains how chlorpyrifos is one of several insecticides that has been found in bee pollen samples (http://www.beeccdcap.uga.edu/documents/CAPArticle16.html).

At the end of the study, researchers found that systolic pressure (upper blood pressure number) in the supplemented group was lowered in the arm and ankle by 15.1 and 11.5mmHg respectively, compared to the placebo participants. Diastolic pressure was lowered by 7.6 and 7.8 mmHg. For many participants, this reduction was enough to lower blood pressure from a pre-hypertension state to a normal reading, significantly lowering the risk of heart attack or stroke.
Of greater importance is the fact that the results observed are similar or better to those found with dangerous prescription ACE inhibitors or beta-blockers so commonly prescribed like candy by allopathic practitioners. The study authors concluded "This study suggests that watermelon extract improves arterial function... cardiovascular events were lower by about two-fold in those with normal ankle systolic blood pressure than in those with high ankle systolic blood pressure during a 15-year follow-up." Researchers found that blood pressure is lowered in a dose-dependent manner with optimal results found with six grams of citrulline/arginine each day.

What goes into mimicking the flavor a strawberry? Well, instead of simply using real strawberry, food manufacturers have decided to opt for a much cheaper (and toxic) method of creating what has come to be known as ‘strawberry flavor‘. The chemical concoction consists of 50 different chemical ingredients, many of which could be threatening to your health.
Processed foods, and even many foods pushed as ‘wholesome’ oftentimes contain this synthetic strawberry flavor (among many others). Yes, you read that right. There are already vehicles on the road - nice vehicles, not bread boxes with weed-eater motors on wheels - that get better than 70 miles to a gallon of diesel fuel. Only, you can't buy one here in the United States. More on that later.
Have you ever heard of a little German car company called Volkswagon (VW)? Well, what you probably didn't know is that VW makes a car called the Passat Bluemotion 1.6 TDI, and - according to published specs and eyewitness accounts - the vehicle is capable of getting 72-78 miles per gallon under normal load and driving conditions. While the car's engine lacks significant punch, says a review in Autocar magazine, it is certainly economical.
But you can't get one in the U.S. You can, however, get one in Europe.
"How about a projected 915-mile range after a fill up? Or a claimed 71.8mpg at the end of a 36-mile motorway and urban commute? Most impressively, a genuine 58mpg on a drive from southwest London to Sheffield without even trying, with the gauge still reading well over half full with 440 miles' worth of diesel left in the tank at the end of the 406-mile round trip," says the review. "And our car only had 2,000 miles showing on its odometer. There are without doubt even more impressive figures to come once the engine has more miles under its belt."
High-mileage cars you can't get in the U.S.
In an online video, an unidentified American male who labeled himself as "Brian" says he recently returned from a trip to the UK and drove a Passat Bluemotion, confirming the amazing mileage statistics.
Worse, Brian says he called a local VW dealer to inquire about the car and its incredible mileage. He says he was told by the dealer that indeed, the car does get that kind of mileage and that, amazingly, it is even built here at a plant in the U.S., but the government won't let it be sold in the U.S. Those vehicles, Brian says he was told, are shipped to South America and other places - despite the current administration's push for more fuel efficiency for American cars and cars that are allowed to be sold in the country.
One reason the hyper-mileage Passat and other similar fuel-sipping models made by other automobile manufacturers, including Ford, Brian said, is because the emissions standards on those vehicles are not as high as is required for cars sold in the U.S. He says he was told by the VW dealer that high-fuel efficiency motors emit 10 percent more pollutants per gallon of fuel than do U.S.-based cars.
"When you work it out, though, it gets twice as good fuel efficiency, so you actually get less pollutants in the air," even though emissions are 10 percent worse, the man said.
The root of all evil?
So what's the catch? Why are cars in the U.S. less fuel efficient than cars in Europe and South America?
You guessed it - money.
American roads are maintained by, in large part, a federal gasoline tax. That tax is levied per gallons. More fuel efficient cars means less money in federal highway funds, so there would be less money for highway repairs.
The technology is there, Brian says he was told, to build 100% electric vehicles that are reliable, but they aren't allowed on U.S. streets because the current highway funding measures all depend on taxing each gallon of gas and diesel fuel sold.
Meanwhile, the Obama administration continues to wail about "greener" cars, less reliance on fossil fuels, and better fuel efficiency, all the while refusing - as have past administrations - to allow car makers to offer a genuine solution. Sound about right?

The second cycle is longer and slightly deeper with what are termed sleep spindles and K-complex waves. Both cycles involve a level of sleep that is easily awakened. The third phase introduces deep sleep with Delta waves under 50%. This leads to the fourth phase with a further increase in Delta waves. Both the third and fourth sleep cycles are where the most regenerative and immune building processes take place.
Any interruption here sets one back to the first cycle, which may be one reason not enough people get into sufficient third and fourth cycle levels of sleep. The fifth cycle is the REM (rapid eye movement) phase where most dreaming occurs. Dreaming can act as a relief valve for recent trying events.
If the third and fourth cycles are too light or non-existent you may feel the effects of fogginess and grogginess or anxiety and irritability upon awakening. Even worse, your immune system is gradually being weakened. That's something we can't afford in our toxic environment.
Safe measures to ensure quality sleep
First look to eliminate or minimize electro-magnetic fields (EMF) from your sleep environment. This might require keeping electric clocks and radios away from your head and pulling the plug on your WIFI modem or router.
Some people simply shut everything down by turning off the master circuit breaker every night! Drastic you say? Think about it. You are surrounded with electrical wiring that produces electromagnetic frequencies creating invisible effects on your brain, every hour of every day.
Your bedroom should be on the cool side, around 70 degrees Fahrenheit to replicate the lowered body temperature of sleep cycles three and four.
Another trick is to make your bedroom as dark as possible or use an eye shield. This encourages melatonin production, the hormone that induces sleep. Stimulating your mind late at night on the computer or watching TV inhibits sleep cycles.

Using sleep deprivation as a method of torture includes leaving on lights and interrupting every few hours. Many of us are practicing self-torture without even knowing it. Instead, the opposite deep-sleep sanctuary should be nurtured for our sanity and health.

I have listened to and read many opinions, point-of-view, positions, attitudes, & beliefs of many people that, support the $200 Billion establishment/entrenched cancer industry position on cancer treatments, so called cancer cures, cancer research and related issues. I can understand how someone could, and would, believe the medical authorities. They’re the authorities! They are the ones that have all of the institutions, the schools, the degrees, the fellowships, the publications, the experts, the God like tendencies, the massive Brainwashing, REVENUE DRIVEN and related matters. They are the ones that spend and/or expend the resources of time and money to study things like cancer, and they report their findings to us. They are people, and they and their family members suffer & die from cancer, just like everybody else does. So who in their right mind would question their dedication, their work, their never-ending quest to beat cancer?
As you probably already figured out, that would be many and me, and other inquisitive, common sense driven people like me, who don’t accept pronouncements from ‘authority’ just because it emanates from those that represent so called authority. As I’ve stated before, the status quo is usually defended by the established experts of the time because they are experts on the way things are, and the way that they have been. I guess that you could characterize them as being a part of the shallow thinking that has gotten us to the place/disaster where we are. Revenue drives Most people & big cos. protect their revenues aggressively!
The problem is that in order to make progress, we must expand our thinking. We must not become enslaved to protect dogma or what we believe is true because our present level of thinking is what has created, or has caused the problems we experience to persist. In order to eradicate our problems, we cannot utilize the level of thinking that created the problem in the first place. The problem is that people are creatures of habit. We become nice & cozy, and love to be comfortable with a static existence. The technical term for this is homeostasis. We like to have some continuity and a stable existence. We don't want to challenge the System ! When new ideas on things are publicized, people have a ‘knee-jerk’ reaction to reject it. It’s natural, so natural that people have written books about it.
In fact, people have a tendency to subconsciously link their belief system to their identity. So this is the explanation of the phenomenon you experience when you try to introduce a paradigm-changing concept to most people. They vehemently bristle at you! They will fight you like you are the Antichrist, or a bitter enemy or a bit "Out There"..
If you really observe a medical establishment apologist’s argument to support the cancer industry, the funniest thing is that the validity or proof of your argument really doesn’t matter to the person supporting the status quo. I noticed that this is because their belief isn’t based on fact or reasoning, but on faith. Faith in other people; faith in an institution; faith in the system. A belief that if they themselves would not do something, other people would not do it either. Keep in mind the following: There is what we know, There is what we don't know. PROBLEM there is what we don't even know that we don't know !
I have studied many subjects, as a retired Investment Banker. One thing that is amazing to me is the blind faith that many people have in institutions and similar artificial entities. The reality is that there is no such thing as a corporation, a government or organizations. They are all artificial. They are abstractions, concepts in our minds. They are only an excuse for people to act under a shield or proxy for their own actions. Governments and corporations can’t do anything because they only exist on a piece of paper in their charters. But men and women acting in the name of a government or a corporation or a media source can and do perform every action that we attribute to these artificial entities.
This may sound like a fine, nitpicky point, but it is a lot more relevant than you would think.
I guess that we need to expand our thinking and get some personal responsibility. Despite the people in government being caught foisting lies, deceptions and doing other dastardly deeds on a very regular basis,(especially in banks and Wash., DC) the vast majority of us continue to believe the lies, allow them to continue to do damaging/bad things. I’m not sure why, but it is astonishing to hear people continue to believe the lies after it has been amply shown that lying, deception, brainwashing and doing unthinkable things are the standard operating procedure of the people in these organizations. Maybe it is the right thing to do. But it doesn’t sit right with many to just sit back and be another corporate/government drone, and to just accept lies and crap because we’re supposed to do it. Says who?
If you haven’t figured it out, some of what I’m referring to is the case with cancer research, Big Pharma, cancer treatment, disease fundraisers, thousands of employees, and related activities. Regardless of what mainstreamers say, even if you assume that 95% of all the 400+ existing alternative cancer treatment methods are pure quackery, that leaves 5% of them that are not, and are promising. That equals about 20 cancer treatments that have promise, and that have been summarily dismissed by mainstream medicine. I BEAT Stage IV Metastasized Cancer, along with a MOVIE/TV STAR, CEO-MD of a large PA Hospital, that both wrote books about 40 years ago about beating CANCER with a Plant Based Diet, THEREFORE ANYONE can do what we did !
I hate having to rely on non-scientific data, observations and similar non-substantiated info. But with all of the corruption in science and government, it doesn’t appear that the truth has a chance against entrenched financial interests.
Witness the situation with GMO foods. Virtually all of the preliminary experimental evidence points to caution and for extended testing of these foods. But people associated with the Big Agricultural cos (like Monsanto)
have put a ban on any labeling of GM foods in America. They couldn’t get away with it in Europe, but they zealously defend their ability to force people in America to be ignorant of the GMO content of their foods. Scientists in the FDA who wanted GM foods to be labeled and tested were quickly railroaded and moved out of the way, and we now have these dangerous genes and organisms in our food. The bottom line is that people are turning us, and our future generations into guinea pigs for their own GREED, Self Serving, revenue/profit; options, common stock levels/bonuses, etc. None of the claims these people are making about GM foods (i.e., that they increase production, are safe, reduce the use of pesticides & chemicals, etc.) are turning out to be true about them. I use the case of the GM foods as a metaphor for the cancer industry and Big Pharma’s ‘profits at all, or any cost’ strategy.

The evidence that these people are not genuine in their search for a cure for cancer is found in how they treat people who admit to them that they are using different strategies to treat their cancer. In numerous reports from people who are successful with alternative cancer treatments, their health care professionals are astonished when they show amazing recoveries, or recover without the usual side effects that people on chemo and radiation experience. Almost to a man, none of the doctors or nurses are in the least bit curious about what a cancer patient is doing to succeed in beating their cancer. Now isn’t that very interesting?? I’m sure that some know that they would become mortal enemies of the medical and cancer establishment if they tried to use anything except their approved protocols & procedures. The "Medical establishment DOES NOT ALLOW Healing or Curing or seeking the CAUSE of illness or disease.
These discoveries would severely damage revenues/profits & place POWR in the hands of the Population or common folks.
It’s time for people to step up and show some guts because these dangerous people are not going to stop the madness voluntarily. We’ve seen that FOR A long TIME. It’s time to put your pacifier away and trade in your diaper for some big breeches.

For the controllers of the cancer establishment, an effective cancer treatment is the enemy to mega-profits. Maybe one day, people will be less profit oriented and will seek the truth. But as of today, there will be no effective, cheap, non-toxic treatment for cancer, and that’s because the people that run the cancer and medical industries (as well as the other corporate vultures that make their fortunes off of treating disease instead of curing and/or preventing disease) will do their best, and use every resource available to them to make sure those treatments never get publicized.
I have listened to and read many opinions, point-of-view, positions, attitudes, & beliefs of many people that, support the $200 Billion establishment/entrenched cancer industry position on cancer treatments, so called cancer cures, cancer research and related issues. I can understand how someone could, and would, believe the medical authorities. They’re the authorities! They are the ones that have all of the institutions, the schools, the degrees, the fellowships, the publications, the experts, the God like tendencies, the massive Brainwashing, REVENUE DRIVEN and related matters. They are the ones that spend and/or expend the resources of time and money to study things like cancer, and they report their findings to us. They are people, and they and their family members suffer & die from cancer, just like everybody else does. So who in their right mind would question their dedication, their work, their never-ending quest to beat cancer?
As you probably already figured out, that would be many and me, and other inquisitive, common sense driven people like me, who don’t accept pronouncements from ‘authority’ just because it emanates from those that represent so called authority. As I’ve stated before, the status quo is usually defended by the established experts of the time because they are experts on the way things are, and the way that they have been. I guess that you could characterize them as being a part of the shallow thinking that has gotten us to the place/disaster where we are. Revenue drives Most people & big cos. protect their revenues aggressively!
The problem is that in order to make progress, we must expand our thinking. We must not become enslaved to protect dogma or what we believe is true because our present level of thinking is what has created, or has caused the problems we experience to persist. In order to eradicate our problems, we cannot utilize the level of thinking that created the problem in the first place. The problem is that people are creatures of habit. We become nice & cozy, and love to be comfortable with a static existence. The technical term for this is homeostasis. We like to have some continuity and a stable existence. We don't want to challenge the System ! When new ideas on things are publicized, people have a ‘knee-jerk’ reaction to reject it. It’s natural, so natural that people have written books about it.
In fact, people have a tendency to subconsciously link their belief system to their identity. So this is the explanation of the phenomenon you experience when you try to introduce a paradigm-changing concept to most people. They vehemently bristle at you! They will fight you like you are the Antichrist, or a bitter enemy or a bit "Out There"..
If you really observe a medical establishment apologist’s argument to support the cancer industry, the funniest thing is that the validity or proof of your argument really doesn’t matter to the person supporting the status quo. I noticed that this is because their belief isn’t based on fact or reasoning, but on faith. Faith in other people; faith in an institution; faith in the system. A belief that if they themselves would not do something, other people would not do it either. Keep in mind the following: There is what we know, There is what we don't know. PROBLEM there is what we don't even know that we don't know !
I have studied many subjects, as a retired Investment Banker. One thing that is amazing to me is the blind faith that many people have in institutions and similar artificial entities. The reality is that there is no such thing as a corporation, a government or organizations. They are all artificial. They are abstractions, concepts in our minds. They are only an excuse for people to act under a shield or proxy for their own actions. Governments and corporations can’t do anything because they only exist on a piece of paper in their charters. But men and women acting in the name of a government or a corporation or a media source can and do perform every action that we attribute to these artificial entities.
This may sound like a fine, nitpicky point, but it is a lot more relevant than you would think.
I guess that we need to expand our thinking and get some personal responsibility. Despite the people in government being caught foisting lies, deceptions and doing other dastardly deeds on a very regular basis,(especially in banks and Wash., DC) the vast majority of us continue to believe the lies, allow them to continue to do damaging/bad things. I’m not sure why, but it is astonishing to hear people continue to believe the lies after it has been amply shown that lying, deception, brainwashing and doing unthinkable things are the standard operating procedure of the people in these organizations. Maybe it is the right thing to do. But it doesn’t sit right with many to just sit back and be another corporate/government drone, and to just accept lies and crap because we’re supposed to do it. Says who?

Regardless of what mainstreamers say, even if you assume that 95% of all the 400+ existing alternative cancer treatment methods are pure quackery, that leaves 5% of them that are not, and are promising. That equals about 20 cancer treatments that have promise, and that have been summarily dismissed by mainstream medicine. I BEAT Stage IV Metastasized Cancer, along with a MOVIE/TV STAR, CEO-MD of a large PA Hospital, that both wrote books about 40 years ago about beating CANCER with a Plant Based Diet, THEREFORE ANYONE can do what we did !

Witness the situation with GMO foods. Virtually all of the preliminary experimental evidence points to caution and for extended testing of these foods. But people associated with the Big Agricultural cos (like Monsanto)
have put a ban on any labeling of GM foods in America. They couldn’t get away with it in Europe, but they zealously defend their ability to force people in America to be ignorant of the GMO content of their foods. Scientists in the FDA who wanted GM foods to be labeled and tested were quickly railroaded and moved out of the way, and we now have these dangerous genes and organisms in our food. The bottom line is that people are turning us, and our future generations into guinea pigs for their own GREED, Self Serving, revenue/profit; options, common stock levels/bonuses, etc. None of the claims these people are making about GM foods (i.e., that they increase production, are safe, reduce the use of pesticides & chemicals, etc.) are turning out to be true about them. I use the case of the GM foods as a metaphor for the cancer industry and Big Pharma’s ‘profits at all, or any cost’ strategy.
